When the context is clear the term is often simply shortened to "wireless". Wireless communications is generally considered to be a branch of telecommunications.

Where sensors record a measurement reading, the level of energy changes. Pressing a button may cause a temperature to change or the brightness of lights. There is enough energy in operations or actions like this to transmit wireless signals over a distance of up to 300 meters.
