Radio data module RS-232/485
The simplest application is the transparent radio modem. The unit receives the data from an external source and sends it to another unit that’s relays it to another external system. None of the unit tries to interpret the data. This is useful for replacing serial cables and for sending data over long distances, more than 1000 meters with free line of sight.

For more advanced use there are a number of possibilities. The unit can compare text received via both the radio and the serial interface with
predefined strings. Wildcards can be used to replace characters in the text string. This makes the interpretation of the received text more flexible. After
the interpretation the unit can take actions. There are a variety of actions.
The unit has internal functions such as timers, counters, logical flags
and various parameters. This makes it possible to program the units to do
much more than just relaying the data.

The I/O module is an industrial radio module for the monitoring and control
of machines. The I/O data radio modules provide bidirectional radio
communication and have a reach of up to 1,000 m. They work on the 433 MHz
band at a bit rate of 4,800 bits/s, and are designed for medium data volumes.
They therefore provide a cost-efficient solution for many applications. This
provides particular time and cost benefits when a larger number of machines or
sensors are widely spread and are to be triggered centrally. The I/O modules can be individually configured and thus ideally adapted to the respective
circumstances, and are mounted to the C/F rail in the switch cabinet.

The I/O module can be applied in a variety of ways in industry and house
technology. The module is used, for example, for gate control through to communication between machines (M2M). For house technology, for instance,
gates or air-condition units can be monitored and triggered centrally, and power
and water metres read remotely. The I/O module can send malfunction
messages and current measuring data automatically. Via the IRIS network,
messages can be sent automatically via SMS or email to the respective staff
responsible. Settings can be conveyed in the other direction via the network,
and are implemented by the I/O module for machine control. The I/O renders
special applications possible in the logistic processing of stocks and automated
transport systems. IRIS radio modules are also used in the vending business to
provide remote assessment of the filling levels and other messages from vending
machines. Mobile components of transport systems or containers are monitored
and triggered in the logistics field.

The Starter-Kit makes a rapid and especially simple entry into the world of radio modules possible, which can also be simultaneously used as an evaluation board.

Among other things, range tests can be carried out with this or data records sent between different units.

The complete package consists
of two kits, two radio modules, two serial data cables, two main cables, as well as an extensive documentation and software on CD-ROM

The new dimension in data transfer by radio

The IRIS radio data-communication module is especially suited for the transfer of small amounts of data over large distances. The range of the radio modules in the open air is up to 1000 meters

The different module parameters, for example frequency or output, are variable
by software at any time. The radio modules automatically encode and decode
the IRIS protocol specially developed by TRL. A very high level of security can
be guaranteed by that.

The modules are available for all usual frequencies from 402 to 470 MHz and
from 804 to 940 MHz and are thus universally applicable worldwide. Six digital
inputs or outputs, as well as six analog inputs, are available in the standard
version. In addition, versions are also available with RS-232 as well as RS-485
interfaces. With compact dimensions of only 42 x 51 x 11 mm, the modules
can be effortlessly integrated into almost all devices, machines or measuring
equipment.
